June 11th Vizille to Beaune

We said goodbye to Vizille but more sadly to Jessica and Marco. It was such a great visit that went fast and didn’t last long enough. We will see Jessica in Paris on her way to the USA and Grayson’s baptism. Which we will miss. But Marco would not let is leave without a baguette.  Much appreciated.

Now on to today. I have the uncanny ability to turn a 3 1/2 hour trip into a 7 hour trip. Let me explain.

Set the GPS in the car to avoid motorways and you end up on backroads.

An hour into our trip

We passed through many small towns like this.

And then passed one of France’s largest glacier fed lakes.

So we had to stop for lunch at this crappy restaurant without a good view.

Yes those are glaciers on the Alps in the background

After lunch, it’s back on the road through beautiful valleys after a long tunnel.

And more small towns.

But all good things must come to an end and so it is with this ride as the mountains give way to flat plains and more trucks and cats. Ir traffic. Time to get on the motorway and get to Beaune. Half way to Paris.

We check into our hotel which is a 15 minute walk from downtown which has very little parking. About 35 minutes later we make it to downtown and find a cafe where we can eat, drink a spritzer have some bread and cheese and rest.

We walk back to the hotel in about 45 minutes, go to our room and collapse.
Tomorrow is about 3 1/2 hours to a Chateaux we have stayed in before a couple of times just North of Paris.  One night there and on to Paris. But that story is for tomorrow.

Good night
