May 20th

 Slow start today in Samos. But that is good. Slept well. Had hot chocolate at the place I had octopus at last night then walked past the Monastery and stopped at a bar for pastry and another chocolate. Then the bar maid called me a cab to get to tonights lodging in Sarria. Mary Ann will be proud to know that I am still wearing the same clothes I left with on Saturday  But I washed everything last night  


Today’s start

Second cafe in Samos. Plus an expresso. 


Today I plan to lighten my walking load a lot. Which I am doing tonight having bought a bag I can put non essentials in and ship on ahead. 

But here are some scenes on my walk to get some tapas.

Now to try to rescue a painting. 

Successfully retrieved the painting but it had a little damage. Took it off the frame and rollled it up for better handling. 



And new bag to ship to next site and lighten my backpack


And so then if you can believe it, I end up in local bar. Gary T has just volunteered to take a flight the next day, and receive$3,500.  The Camino just keeps on giving. At the bar two things stood out. A lamp and darts.

 May 5th 2026 On May 16th, I leave for Madrid, Spain to begin my journey on the last part of the Camino Frances from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela. My son Gary will be joining me for the pilgrimage walk. It is just the last 116km (60 miles). I have a couple of places on the Camino to visit before reaching Sarria, which I will notate. The real pilgrimage for us starts in Sarria. After the Camino, Gary goes back home, and I am meeting Mary Ann, (who will have been in Florence, Italy) in San Sebastian, Spain for two nights.  Then off to France, where Jessica now lives near Grenoble and then Scotland (10 days)and lastly but not least Ireland (9 days). One last hurrah in Europe. Or so we think.

May 26th Tuesday

 Well the day started quiet enough walking the Camino. That means a hugh uphill walk and very few places to stop for drinks. By now I am forwarding most of my stuff and only using a very small light backpack. Thank you Linda.  After about 9 of the 12 miles for that day ( And who is counting) I began to feel like I was drunk and attributed it to a combo of beer and pain killers. I guess other hikers did not. There are not a lot of places to sit and rest on this portion of the Camino. So when I sat in one spot a bunch of ladies asked if I was OK. Of course I gave them my standard reply. Just “old and slow”. They tried to help me walk further but I was not steady on my feet. So I sat down again Me sitting Feeling fine. They insisted on calling an ambulance and I didn’t have much choice as this one lady had taken charge Ambulance coming to get me.  My ambulance companion Riding in the ambulance.  In the hospital for testing. EKG, blood sugar, BP, pulse. The whole works. ...

​As the song says “All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go”. But not sure if the rest of that song rings true in this case.  I leave Saturday around dinner time to Atlanta, then on a silver bird to Madrid Spain. Direct flight.  I have enclosed photos of what I will have with me for the Camino portion of this adventure. Basically a backpack weighing 12 lbs loaded. The orange blob is my sleeping bag. Borrowed from a dear female friend who did the full Camino 10 years ago. Thank you Linda I don’t think I will be mistaken for a “Camigas”. Lol
