June 12th Beaune to Ermenonville
We leave Beaune without seeing the famous hospital there a second time. We have a 3 1/2 trip via motorway to a town Northeast of Paris. We try to find a halfway town for lunch and a break and settle on Auxerre. I thought we had been there before, but it turned out we had not. A famous mid evil town and quite big.
First on the agenda is lunch. We find a nice cafe with a weird name. But a good menu.
Nice weather
Mary Ann’s Salad
Croque Monsieur for me in honor of our friend Jack.
Such a weird name for a restaurant.
I tried to buy a Tshirt for our daughter, but they had none.
Next bit of business is to explore the town. Turns out we had not been there and were so glad we stopped. Some photos from our walk.
Me on an old street
Hard to see, but I loved this small narrow roof. And oh yea, the lady in the photo too.
Along the river. Many big cathedrals
But on our walk, we come across a hidden gem.
The pulpit
Inside. More candles lit for family and friends.
Such magnificent gothic structure
The Churches story
From the sublime to the mundane. K-Pop is everywhere.
Back on the road to this night’s lodgings. After going through Paris outer-ring traffic we arrive at a place we have stayed at 2 times before. You decide if we made the right choice.
This is where we stayed last night.
View from our bedroom window.

The back terrace
Charcuterie board for a snack
Mary Ann waiting out back for a spritzer. That is part of the moat around the chateau.
Who needs elevators with stairs like this? But it does have an elevator.
The Chateau itself is where Rousseau spent the last years of his life as a guest to get away from everything.
Dinner was nice but could have been better. Sitting by the windows looking over the pond made up for it.
Tomorrow we drive to Paris and return the car, have lunch with Jessica and relax and pack for Scotland on Monday.
