June 18th Newtonmore, Scotland
So it’s Uber to airport to pick up the car. They talk me into something a bit more expensive saying I will need it on the Isle of Skye. We shall see. And of course I have to get used to driving on the other side of the road where left hand turns easy but you have to watch for oncoming traffic when turning right. And going around circles left to right and not right to left. Have only hit the curbside of the road 5 or 6 times.
About an hour outside of Edinburgh we stop at Doune Castle. You have all seen it, you just don’t know it. Monty Python’s “Search for the Holy Grail” was filmed there as well as “Outlander “ and “Game of Thrones”. Was fun to see it in person but too many steps for Mary Ann. And I must say, it could have been many other castles that are in a state of disrepair. Aside from the gift shop that had items covering all three movies and more. Guess which movie I bought something of.
And now for the photos.
The Castle where the French hide.
In the inner courtyard.
The real Royal Throne.
In side the dining hall.
That’s enough steps for Mary Ann.
In side the formal great hall.
A Banquet hall. They might also sleep here.
The real Lord of the Manor.
Well, that is Mary Ann in the rain
So we make it to Newtonmore on a highway somewhat good scenery raining most of the way check into our B&B, shower and rest. Only photos of the place. No shower pics.
Our place
Downtown Newtonmore. Hotel where we ate to the right.
We walk to the nearest hotel and have dinner. This is after not much breakfast or lunch the whole day.
Good food
I had a haggis tower for appetizer.
Mary Ann had Mac & Cheese which she didn’t like.
For dessert, Mary Ann had a cherry bakewell.
I had Sticky Toffee Pudding. Before
And after cream is poured on.
We walked home past some nice posts with moss. sweet
Tomorrow we wander along the highlands driving to Inverness where we will stay for 2 nights.
