June 21st. Isle of Skye

Had a nice rest last night so ready to drive to the Isle of Skye in Scotland. That is where we will spend the Summer Solstice. Sun won’t go down till 10:30 or later. Got the car loaded and we were off on the road by 10:00 am. An early start for us. And as promised, I took some photos of Loch Ness on the way.

And I was lucky enough to catch one of Nessie the Loch Ness Monster ( She asks that she not be called Monster)

Now to you non believers, they may look like rocks, but trust me on this she posed for me that way.

Then the drive took us away from the Loch and Nessie into the highlands toward the west coast of Scotland. What great scenery we encountered.

A place to pull off and view the scenery.

But there are also hidden dangers in these parts.

A castle we ran into along the way. Eilean Donan Castle.

We made it to our home for the next two nights on the Isle of  Skye in Broadford. A caravan that is really cozy. Some photos.

We hadn’t eaten so we went across the street to a hotel our host recommended. Here are some photos.
A walk across a bridge to get there.

I had bangers and mash. Very good.
Mary Ann had steak.

Hotel Photo
If you could read the words on the side it says “The Original Home of Drambuie”.
It seems the host was very nice to a traveler so the traveler gave the host his grandmother's recipe for what became Drambuie.

The ruins of the original distillery are just down the street from where we are staying.

And it was a nice walk along the bay.

The same bay with the tide out.

Encountered a nice moss wall along the way.

So how do you spend the longest daylight of the year. Well we got back in the car and drove north for some dessert. Turned into a pizza which was quite nice. One can only eat so much haggis.

The town of Portree

And of course coming back home, we have to share the road with sheep.

Tomorrow, more of the Isle of Skye.
