July 2nd. Kinmore
A short travel day. But you know I am going to stretch it out. We check out of our place after telling the owner what a fine show it was last night. They are going to see it in August.
Our guide (Apple Maps) tales us through small country lanes that though narrow have very few cars. What is different from Scotland is that the roads are lined with hedges hence the term hedgerows. Only a break now and then allows you to see the countryside. When you do it is great. Some early shots.
And of course a Pub is around every corner even on small country roads
Cafe where we had breakfast Mary Ann a scone and me a mini Irish breakfast
So we drive on and on on small
Country roads looking for a larger highway to shorten the trip to Killarney. Just before we do, we run into this. Larger newer house up on the hill.
We finally hit a divided highway and head for Killarney. Parking is not easy but we find a parking garage half empty and use it. I think there are still people driving around the other lots waiting for someone to leave.
Killarney is quant for a large town. We find a Pub ( not a hard task) and have a snack cheese board and some drinks. I will say it was the third pub we tried. The first two were empty at 12:45 pm. Not a good sign in Ireland.
You have seen cheese boards so no photos taken. But you might not have seen Killarney or it’s castle.
Downtown Killarney
We drive over the mountains of Killarney National Park to Kinmare where we will stay for 2 nights. The roads are narrow but not like Scotland. I am prepared. A few photos.
We reach Kinmare too early to check in so we find the house we are staying in, head back to Kinmare and you guested it look for a Pub and a snack. Might hive a drink to go with them. Kinmare is such a lovely town. Outdoor tables everywhere. We will eat there tonight.

Some statues across the way. Don’t know who or what they are for.
After an afternoon rest, we went back into town for dinner. Too chilly to eat outside on the street so we go in and wait for a table for two. We get one right away, but it is near a group of tourists who are so loud, no-one can hear themselves think. Unfortunately it is a group of people from the USA. They were having a good time, but no one else was. Oh well. Mary Ann had a nice linguine but my duck breast was over cooked.
Off to a different place for dessert. It was OK and they had live Irish music. It was nice but not like last night or Sunday’s. Who was it that said “ You can never go home again”? But that is what we did and watched the sunset from in front of our place. Very nice. You be the judge.
